Celebrating the vital force of English music, Junctions combines the best of traditional English folk and contemporary classical music. Spiers & Boden and the Tacet Ensemble join together in concert to explore common threads in their musical languages.

Alongside pieces from their own repertoires, they will be performing new works written by Jon Boden, Ed Hughes, Alison Kay and John Spiers which result from an extensive process over several months where the groups and composers have worked closely together to produce integrated and exciting music.

The project will tour around the South East in December 2008/January 2009 and in addition the Tacet Ensemble will give short performances in several folk clubs. See forthcoming concerts for details.

Junctions began in 2005 when the Tacet Ensemble worked with the English Acoustic Collective and with the Copper Family and Shirley Collins. Running one series of concerts with each group, they gave performances around the South East including at the Brighton Festival and Crawley Folk Festival. The project was also the subject of a feature on BBC Radio 3's Hear and Now presented by Verity Sharp. This new tour builds on the successes of the earlier concert series.

Junctions: English Music Breaking Formation is rooted in the firm belief that there are more connections between genres of music than there are differences, and that highlighting the common ground between them produces rich new sound worlds.

This project has been made possible by the generous support of Arts Council England South East, the PRS Foundation, Brighton & Hove City Council, the RVW Trust, the Holst Foundation and the University of Sussex.
